Receiving newspapers by fax, like a bell on TV sets to advise people of important news events, like the Picturephone, were things that were technologically feasible. But economic considerations – or other factors – meant that those ideas didn’t fly as practical products.

Today, people can use their home computers for videophone communications, and they can print off documents they’ve downloaded as PDF files – which could easily be news summaries.
